Foot Health Education

Foot health education is the delivery of information, advice and education on foot health, footcare, footwear, foot hygiene, and medical conditions affecting the foot and lower limb.

Foot health education is about providing the public, patients, carers and staff with the knowledge to be able to look after and manage their own feet, and the feet of those under their care, in conjunction with podiatry treatment.

What is foot health education?

Foot health education aims to educate and encourage adults and children to look after and maintain the health of their feet. Foot health education also provides information or how best to manage problems that have already arisen.

Foot health education can be delivered in a variety of ways, for example, verbal advice to individuals and groups, leaflets, and information sheets.

The purpose of foot health education is to:

  • Educate people on podiatry, what it is and the conditions it can help with
  • Recognise potential foot problems
  • Understand the importance of maintaining foot health
  • Understand how certain medical conditions affect the feet
  • Be able to manage feet in between appointments
  • Be able to choose appropriate footwear, files, lotions and ointments, and to know what products are not suitable and why

If you, a relative, or someone you care for has a problem with the foot you will understandably be concerned. It may be that all you need is reassurance, or perhaps you just want some advice on how to manage a foot problem.

At Macclesfield Podiatry we believe that in order to get the most out of a treatment session is essential that the patient understands their condition, and why it has occurred. We also believe that what happens at home after the treatment session is just as important as the treatment itself, and the best results are achieve d using a team approach between the patient and the podiatrist.

Our podiatrists are experts in the foot and lower limb and are available to deliver health education to individuals, groups, businesses, care and residential homes, and schools.
